Nintendo Switch 2 in August 2026: Five Releases to Put on Your Radar
From Final Fantasy XIV and Big Walk to Oblivion Remastered, Metal Gear Solid, and Elden Ring, these five August releases show the range of Nintendo Switch 2.

August 2026 is less about one unavoidable blockbuster and more about range. Nintendo's official monthly list covers online worlds, cooperative exploration, heavyweight RPGs, sports and stealth classics.
These are the five releases that best show what the month offers. Dates were accurate on Nintendo's page at publication time and can still vary by region.
Final Fantasy XIV Online — early access, August 4
The long-running MMO arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 in early access form. Nintendo highlights an expanded free trial covering the base game plus Heavensward, Stormblood and Shadowbringers.
This is the pick for players who want a persistent world and do not mind a gradual start. It is also the release most dependent on networking and long-session comfort, so it makes sense to try the free content before committing to a subscription.
Big Walk — August 4
From the creators of Untitled Goose Game, Big Walk is an online "walker-talker" for up to 12 friends with cross-platform play. The emphasis is on communication, wandering and cooperative discovery rather than winning a traditional match.
It is the month's most interesting social game. The deciding question is not hardware power but whether you have a group willing to explore together.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered — August 11
Oblivion Remastered brings the 2006 open-world RPG to Switch 2 with updated visuals and refined gameplay. For returning players, portability is the hook. For newcomers, it is a more systems-driven role-playing game than many modern open worlds.
Expect a large time commitment and a deliberately old-school quest structure beneath the visual update.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 — August 27
The second collection includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, plus bonus material including Metal Gear: Ghost Babel.
For series fans, the headline is straightforward access to key entries on current Nintendo hardware. For new players, this is not the ideal starting point; begin with the earlier collection if you want the story in order.
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition — August 28
The Tarnished Edition bundles Elden Ring with Shadow of the Erdtree and adds classes, weapons and armour. It is the month's biggest single-player package, but also the one where performance impressions matter most.
Wait for technical analysis if frame pacing or image quality is important to you. The amount of content is not in doubt; the quality of the portable conversion is the purchasing question.
Also worth noting
Pokémon Pokopia's first Expansion Pass content arrived on August 5, Lies of P: Complete Edition launched the same day, and Madden NFL 27 followed on August 13. Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is listed for the original Switch on August 28.
What should you buy first?
Choose Big Walk for a friend group, Oblivion for a classic open-world adventure, and Elden Ring for the largest challenge. Final Fantasy XIV is the best low-risk trial because so much content is available before a paid commitment.
Nintendo notes that release dates were accurate when its article was published. Always confirm the local eShop listing before buying.
